As Fast As
Open Letter to the Damned

Maine's As Fast As recently toured with pretty-boy "rock" band O.A.R. What does that tell you? Well, that their music is not particularly groundbreaking, and not terribly original, but their inclusion of steady punk rhythms and fun sing-song choruses make Open Letter to the Damned worth a listen. The four-piece clearly draws from '90s acts, especially on songs like "Special," on which they sound like a Rivers-less Weezer. Not to say that that's a bad thing--just a bit played out. The album is hit-and-miss, but if As Fast As continues touring with teenage-girl-luring bands like O.A.R., their fast and fun punk will hit their target audience and be much more appreciated there than they are here. |
