Fresh-faced Brock Dain is likeable. You can say that about his pleasantly melodic voice. His toe-tapping tunes. His easygoing lyrics. On A Little Bit of Everything, Dain captures that boy-next-door sweetness which will make young girls swoon. Fans of young acts such as Lifehouse and Maroon 5 are going to find much to enjoy here, especially single-worthy tunes like “Missin’ You (5 Years)” and “Lifetimes.” However, his lyrics do address adult concerns that his youthful vocals may not make you realize he’s singing. In “On and On,” for example, Dain narrates a tale of romantic frustration, searching for love in bars, only to be constantly disappointed: “I find something I like/But I know that eventually your flaws will come into sight now.” Sharp observation. Expect to hear more on this finely tuned debut record.
