You can also call them Eclectic Doormat as this keyboard-loving combo stretches the boundaries of their own formula. Although synthesizers were despised in the grunge haze of the ‘90s, they’re certainly making a return in alternative music, but don’t expect Electric Doormat to be dependent upon them or even utilize them the same way. Electric Doormat switches back and forth between the metallic sludge of “A Matter Of In Fact” and the title cut to softer dynamics (“Small,” “We’re Not Quite Lining Up”]. In fact, “We’re Not Quite Lining Up”” has downright beautiful keyboards. Whichever side of Electric Doormat you prefer, there’s enough to satisfy both crowds. And then they throw a curveball like “Can of Bird,” confusing all of us and probably laughing their asses off in the process.
