Cards on table, singer-songwriters make me want to wretch. There are too many of them, and the differences between their talent are pretty tricky because most of them sound exactly the same. That said, Jon Garcia can stand out.
In his best moments Garcia can be a little Badly Drawn Boy (albeit with a little less of that otherworldly charm that Damon manages--Garcia’s an accessible local Northwest fella after all), in his worst, to be honest, it can get a little Kenny Loggins. YEAH I SAID IT! Oh well, it’s okay. Think of how many people love Kenny Loggins? Plus, he had all those sweet-ass hits like “Danger Zone” and shit. Garcia’s not channeling that though, he’s channeling the Kenny that went on to create that Winnie the Pooh song. But, fuck-damn, guys, that shit was adorable!
Keep up the work, Jon. I’ll see you in my forties when you’re singing to the kiddies!
(Jokes aside, man and artwork totally likeable and charming. Just listen.)
