|A crowd full of couples holding each other, singing along, and bobbing their heads was the perfect atmosphere for Pedro the Lion’s show at Neumo’s.
The band wasted no time with useless introductions, as everyone knew who they were, and kicked right into gear. The audience immediately took to bobbing their head with the rhythm and singing along to the words.
The highlight of the evening was when they played “When They Really Get to Know You They Will Run.” The words poured from the stage and into the audience: “put on whatever makes you attractive.” Frontman David Bazan has a voice that sounds faintly like Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, only with more energy. The mellow tone from the band reflected that of the audience - a chill, serene environment, and the emo-inspired lyrics (but not vocals!) and indie infused rock made the perfect set for a great evening.
Towards the end of the show Bazan announced that it was time for the “Frequently Asked Questions” portion of the show. The audience shouted out responses: Happy Easter! When are you coming to Alaska? Why is your set orange? He answered all of them with good humor and a smile, igniting appreciative laughs from the crowd before he went back into playing music.
Although Pedro the Lion is usually known for its Christian overtones, there was none of that displayed in this show. Rather, just a great show with great music.
