Overwhelmed With Love

What a breath of fresh air is it to hear an album that’s not trying to be trendy. In fact, Melisa Prestianni’s music probably wouldn’t be even considered “hip” among the Christian alternative collective, but that’’s a large part of her appeal. Instead of co-opting hot secular styles (i.e. post-grunge, rap), Prestianni is in a league all her own, crafting a timeless collection of spiritually uplifting songs that aren’t content with a uniform sound. Prestianni’s musical collaborators keep the settings modest - melodic, softly caressed piano; gently plucked acoustic guitars; wind-swept strings; and even some horns for atmosphere.
Like most Christian music, Overwhelmed With Love doesn’t require repeated spins for the hooks to settle in. One of the reasons why Christian rock has been so successful lately (KCMS-FM in Seattle’s among the city’s highest-rated radio stations, getting far better numbers than their secular pop counterparts) is its accessibility. Prestianni’s tunes are hummable and easy to digest, especially “Your Love Has Changed My Life” and “Overwhelmed.”
