Neumos – June 1, 2006
by Ashley Graham
A two piece that’s nothing like the White Stripes sounds like a party and a half to me at this stage in the game. Enter Two Gallants, two gritty, grimy fellas from San Francisco who make aggressive, growly rock with all the passion and none of the unnecessary gimmick. The CDs are great, but the live show is what made me a fan. Tyson Vogel’s beats are wild, crazy and unrestrained and Adam Stephens’ vocals are strikingly powerful, like the voice of a disillusioned generation of wanderers. Their latest album, what the toll tells, was released last February on indie-stardom breeding ground, Saddle Creek, and in just a few short months the boys have gone from playing the Crocodile to headlining Neumos. Not too shabby. And, oh so deserved.
