Vulpine
Channels
by Melissa Mueller
Sounding like a cross between Godsmack and Staind, nu-metal band Vulpine is reminiscent of something you could have once heard on KoRn’s Family Values Tour. All the same ingredients are there: heavy riffs, dismal and angry shouted lyrics and a bunch of angry looking dudes.
Vulpine does surprise though at times, such as balladesque songs like “Where I Belong” and “Persona” where the band gets in touch with their, uh, softer side so to speak. Lead singer “Hatch” takes to actually singing the words rather than yelling them as he sings fondly of a lady; “The feelings are taking over me, Like who else am I suppose to be with you.” The lyrics leave much to be desired, and as the album progresses, it quickly loses momentum.
If you enjoy bands like KoRn, Staind, Godsmack, then you might give Vulpine a chance. Otherwise, give this band the once over, as nothing on Channels is likely to suck you in. |
